The potential of RES in agriculture presented at the COALition Infoday in Ptolemaida

With great success and increased participation – mainly from University students and young scientists – the 1st Infoday of the European project COALition took place on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at the premises of CERTH in Ptolemaida.

The event aimed to present the project and facilitate an open dialogue on the opportunities that Renewable Energy Sources (RES) offer to the agricultural sector, especially in the context of the Just Transition.

During the event, the following topics were presented:

  • The main goals and actions of the COALition project

  • Opportunities for applying RES in agriculture

  • The pilot initiative “Electrification of Agriculture using RES (PV)”, which also included a practical demonstration

  • The laboratory equipment used by the Institute for the holistic approach and analysis of the products generated by the pilot project

The discussion that followed was particularly engaging, with questions, comments, and ideas from students, researchers, and professionals.Participation from students of the Department of Agriculture, University of Western Macedonia was especially active, highlighting their strong interest in sustainable agricultural production and energy innovation.

The event concluded with a tour of CERTH’s facilities and networking among participants.

The COALition Project, implemented under Horizon Europe, aims to foster collaboration among stakeholders, citizens, and the scientific community to promote the sustainable development of transitioning regions, with a strong focus on innovation and local community engagement.
